3 Chargers Selected to All-Region IV District A Volleyball Team

A trio of Carl Sandburg College volleyball players — freshman Carley Reeves-Eakins (Branson, Mo./Reeds Spring), sophomore Annie McKim (Yates City, Ill./homeschooled) and freshman Jerzi Johnson (Monmouth, Ill./United) — were voted by coaches to the All-Region IV Division II District A team for their outstanding play this season.
A 6-foot outside hitter, Reeves-Eakins also earned All-Region honors for the Chargers women’s basketball team last week. On the volleyball court, she’s played in all 18 matches this season and leads Sandburg in points per set (4.0), kills (202), attacks (611), aces (22) and solo blocks (23). She’s also second among Chargers in digs (173) and total blocks (29). Reeves-Eakins has recorded six double-doubles on the season — all in the last seven matches — and has a season-high of 19 kills, set March 25 against Waubonsee and again in last week’s Region IV tournament championship at Triton.
McKim, a 5-10 middle, joined Reeves-Eakins as the only Chargers to play in all 63 sets this season. She leads Sandburg with a .327 hitting percentage, and her 127 kills on the season are second on the team. McKim also has 27 total blocks — good for third on the squad — and she’s tied for third with 12 aces. Her 13 kills in the Chargers’ win March 19 against Spoon River were a career-high.
Johnson, a 5-11 middle, has been a consistent presence at the net in her first season for the Chargers. She leads the team with 31 total blocks, and her 19 solo blocks are second among Sandburg players. Johnson’s .298 hitting percentage trails only McKim, and she put down a season-best 10 kills March 19 against Spoon River.
Reeves-Eakins, McKim, Johnson and the rest of the Chargers will begin play in the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championship at 9 a.m. Tuesday against Iowa Central. It’s the third time in the last four seasons Sandburg has reached the national tournament.
